Equah's Blog - Introduction
My first post which is an Introduction to my blog. In this post I will describe the topics of this blog, introduce the first projects and some project ideas for the future and tell some things about me personally.
Topics
The primary topic of this blog will be about all sorts of technical stuff. The most common topic here will probably be programming. Tough this will start later on, because I have few other projects planned first. Additionally I've just recently started with learning about electromechanics. So this will surely also become a topic on this blog with for example programming microcontrollers and building crazy stuff with them.
Another topic which I would like to get into, but probably in later future is science and sci-fi. Since I'm very interested in science (primarily astronomy, chemistry and medicine) and I like to speculate allot about things which we could do with new technology. I would also like to go a bit into science fiction and present ideas on how different things could be realized with known science and technology.
Projects
There is a variety of different projects I have in mind which we could do over time on this blog. I conducted a list of the largest projects which I would like to do. But please note, that it is not guaranteed that all of this projects will be made, and this list serves more of what could be expected to come in future.
3D Printer: Regarding this there would be different projects. On one hand I have ordered a printer just recently, which will arrive soon after this post. I thought I will post about setting it up and showing off a few prints. Otherwise I always wanted to once build one myself. So this could be a project for the future on this blog where we could build our own 3D printer.
Personal desk: I moved to a new home a bit over a half year ago. Already then I planed to make an own personalized desk, which perfectly fits my room with some special features. I will soon publish an introduction to this project, where I describe the features of it. This will be the first large project on this blog.
Drone: This is something I wanted to do since a long time. I always wanted to build my own personalized drone. I have a variety of ideas on how to do it. I thought to start off, I would build a land / wheeled or swimming / ship drone. Later on we could go for something flying like a quadcopter.
Electromechanics: This is in regard to the self made 3D printer and drone. I first have to acquire some experience in electromechanics to realize these projects. For that I would start off with doing some simple stuff like for example automating the shutters control and light switches in my room. The first contact with these will probably be with my personalized desk project, where I want to make the sockets automated (to for example automatically turn off the computer screens).
Computer setup: When the personal desk project is finished, I want to build a new computer setup. I will primarily use it as workstation, but should also provide a virtualization setup (like my current setup) with GPU Passthrough to play computer games on it, because I want to continue using Arch Linux as my primary operating system. But this will be a project for later on, since I first want to finish my personal desk setup.
Computer architecture: Some time ago I designed, based on some tutorials, an 8-bit computer architecture. I thought I could bring that on this blog by designing a new architecture and later on trying to build it with as less advanced hardware as possible (mabe by only using logic gate chips).
About Me
My name is Roger Hürzeler and I prefer using my pseudonym 'Equah' to refer to me. I live near Lucerne in Switzerland.
In regard to education I have finished school, but with bad grades since at that age I prefered programming over learning in my free time. I have completed an IT internship a few years back and just recently started my apprenticeship as application developer. I perform my courses remotely from my workspace, since it is sadly (due to psychological reasons) currently not possible for me to attend school. My apprenticeship will be done in around 2 - 3 years, but this is not clarified yet.
One of my major interests is science. I'm interested in astronomy, chemistry, medicine and of course everything that has todo with technology. I also very much like science fiction and think alot about how things from sci-fi scenarios could be realized with today’s known science and technology. I think this could also be a topic for a few posts, where we discuss about these matters and how it can be done.
Programming is my largest hobby which i perform in my freetime. At the age of 12 I started with learning HTML and CSS and soon after that my first programming language PHP. Meanwhile I have already worked with Lua, C/C++, C#, JavaScript and have a lot of experience in Java as well as my current favorite language Python. Most education in this field comes from teaching it to myself. I also already have experience in some other topics like computer architecture, (a little bit) assembly and cryptography. But I haven't finished a lot of projects with these, since I get distracted very fast and therefore start one project after another without finishing them. I hope this blog will help me in this regard to keep working on one project until it is finished.
I also wanted to mention that English is not my native language. But I hope this blog helps me to improve it by using it more oftenly. So if I misspell something or if I could parse a sentence in another / better way, please let me know with a comment.

Other things regarding this blog which I wanted to mention.
Social media
I also wanted to introduce my social media channels, on which I will post updates on every release of a blog post.
Twitter launch: This will probably be the most active channel, since I will post short updates on projects here.
Facebook launch: On the facebook page I will primarily post releases of new blog posts.
Google+ launch: Similar to Facebook, I will also here primarily only post releases on this blog.
YouTube launch: This channel will not be active for any standalone videos, but I will use it to upload videos, when I for example show off a finished project or to upload media when I require a video for a post on this blog.
Instagram launch: This channel does not have much to do with this blog, but I still wanted to mention it, since I will probably post some images here during a variety of hardware projects. But primarily I want to use it to post images which I took while for example traveling, since I like to take photos of different places and landscapes.
Regularity
I also wanted to mention, that there will be no regularity in how often I post on this blog. It always depends on how much time I have to work on projects, and which difficulties I encounter in doing them. It also always differs how much available time I have.
That was the introduction so far. Probably around next weekend I'm planning to write the post for the 3D printer setup and mabe show off some of the first prints I've done. Afterwards will come the introduction to my personalized desk.
