Room setup - Primary desk

Room setup - Primary desk Welcome back to the next part of the room setup project. In this post I present the primary desk on which I implemented some special features. Overview In my room setup, I wanted to have a primary desk, dedicated for work on my computer and also gaming. I have set some requirements for it prior to the start of this project, which was to have the ability to rise or lower the desk to work on my computer while standing or sitting. Lift mechanism The idea for this came pretty early, after viewing some automated height adjustable desks, of which the prices range from 2000 - 3000 CHF, to build one myself. So I bought an IKEA desk for roughly 200 CHF (on which the height can be adjusted with a hand crank) and wanted to build an electromotor into it. I had a small electric motor lying around since a while, and wanted to try doing it with this. On the firsy try, I printed two gears, to translate the fast movement of the motor to more power at the cost of speed. This so

Room setup - Shelf electronics

Room setup - Shelf electronics Sorry for the delay, since I had promised this post to be released a while ago. I had allot of things going on lately and was also working on other projects. But here it is. The build of my room setup project's shelf electronics. Overview In my room setup, I have placed a shelf on the right side at the wall. I mounted multiple cables on it with 3D printed cable mounts which allow for a permanent fixture with zip ties and a temporary fixture with cables, for easy replacement and expansion of for example network cables. Additionally the shelf hosts the major room control components, which is a Raspberry Pi to host the room control server and an Arduino to control some peripherals (router, lighting, shutters, etc.). Electronics The electronics in the shelf are separated into two compartments in the shelf. On the left side are the electronics control and on the right side the primary control. Electronics control The Left side of the shelf features an Ardu

Room setup - Introduction

Room setup - Introduction Already when this blog started, I wrote about the Personal Desk project. The concept of this project has completely changed since then and I have merged this project to represent the whole setup of my bedroom at home. This primarily considers the technical setup of the room, as well as some special features of the furniture. Original idea The original idea of the Personal Desk project was to build my own desk from scratch for which I had support to cut and build the primary parts from a few people. The desk should have spanned the whole area along the same wall, where my current desk setup is positioned. One part of it should have been able to be lifted and be equipped with a lot of technical stuff like automated lighting and integrated sockets for power, Ethernet and USB. But the reason I changed was the fact, that I will only live for the duration of my apprenticeship in this commune, which would have been a quite large setup and allot of work to realize thi

FABTotum - Palette+

FABtotum - Palette+ Setup and first printed models with the Palette+ launch by Mosaic Manufacturing launch on my FABtotum Core PRO launch . Introduction Palette+ is a device which allows to print multiple materials with the same extruder. It does this by cutting the filament at the given length and welds it together with the next material. I have been working on setting up and calibrating Palette+ over the last two weeks and I'm impressed by the current results. Palette+ really is a great upgrade for any printer which is not equipped with multiple extruders. If you just got the Palette+ yourself, please refer to the guide on the Mosaic Manufacturing website. FABtotum also offers a guide on additional information on setting it up with the FABtotum printer. Filament container Already a few weeks ago I bought a box to store the filament in ready for use with the Palette+. I printed end caps for the rod and drilled holes for the filament. It was a matter of a few hours and was def

FABtotum - Setup

FABtotum - Setup As I mentioned last week in my blog introduction, I have ordered a 3D printer. I'm gonna show off some images and write about the setup of the FABtotum Core Pro launch . Introduction The printer I ordered is the FABtotum Core Pro by the Italian company FABtotum. First when I tried to order, I got some problems with the payment (I wasn't able to pay with USD, but I was on the wrong region configured in the shop) but the same day an employee from FABtotum contacted me and offered me other payment methods. Overall during the order and during its progress I got great support by him as updates over the current status of the order processing. Additionally to the printer I ordered a variety of different filaments (e.g. flexible filament, wood PLA and the PRO HT PLA). I also ordered the Palette+ launch over them, which is manufactured by Mosaic Design and allows up to four different filaments to be welded together for a multicolored print in one go. But The Palette+

Equah's Blog - Introduction

Equah's Blog - Introduction My first post which is an Introduction to my blog. In this post I will describe the topics of this blog, introduce the first projects and some project ideas for the future and tell some things about me personally. Topics The primary topic of this blog will be about all sorts of technical stuff. The most common topic here will probably be programming. Tough this will start later on, because I have few other projects planned first. Additionally I've just recently started with learning about electromechanics. So this will surely also become a topic on this blog with for example programming microcontrollers and building crazy stuff with them. Another topic which I would like to get into, but probably in later future is science and sci-fi. Since I'm very interested in science (primarily astronomy, chemistry and medicine) and I like to speculate allot about things which we could do with new technology. I would also like to go a bit into science fiction
